چکیده

The Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) is developing a 5 12~640-format, dual broadband, Quantum Well Infrared Photodetector (QWIP) focal plane array (ITA) for an imaging interferometer. This is a new type of imaging interferometer which is based on special Fourier-transform spectroscopy, scans interferograms digitally without moving any optical components. It is stable enough to measure fluctuating target signatures from unstable platforms, making it ideal for detecting chemical agents from a remotely piloted aircraft. These static interferometers require large-format FPAs with high uniformity and operability. QWIP technology is ideal for this instrument because it has achieved remarkable success in advancing highly uniform, highly-operability, and large-format multicolor F’PAs. The FPA used in the interferometer covers the wavelength from 6-10 pm and 10-15 pm in alternative rows.

Progress in resonator quantum well infrared photodetector (R-QWIP) focal plane arrays

In this work, the performance of a 640 512 long-wavelength resonant quantum well infrared photodetector (R-QWIP) focal plane array (FPA) was evaluated as a function of operating temperature, bias, and photon flux using an F/2.2 optic. From these FPA measurements an assessment of the dark current, noise, conversion efficiency and noise-equivalent temperature difference is provided herein. Histog...

Corrugated Quantum Well Infrared Photodetector Focal Plane Array Test Results

The corrugated quantum-well infrared photodetector (C-QWIP) uses total internal reflection to couple normal incident light into the optically active quantum wells. The coupling efficiency has been shown to be relatively independent of the pixel size and wavelength thus making the C-QWIP a candidate for detectors over the entire infrared spectrum. The broadband coupling efficiency of the C-QWIP ...

QWIP and MCT for Long Wavelength and Multicolor Focal Plane Array Applications

Infrared (IR) sensor technology is critical to all phases of ballistic missile defense. Traditionally, material systems such as indium antimonide (InSb), platinum silicide (PtSi), mercury cadmium telluride (MCT), and arsenic doped silicon (Si: As) have dominated IR detection. Improvement in surveillance sensors and interceptor seekers requires large, highly uniform, and multicolor (or multispec...

9 pm Cutoff 256 x 256 GaAslAlxGal - xAs Quantum Well Infrared Photodetector Focal Plane Array Camera

There are several applications that require long wavelength, large, uniform, reproducible, low cost, low 1/f noise, low power dissipation, and radiation hard infrared (IR) focal plane arrays (FPAs). For example, the absorption lines of many gas molecules, such as ozone, water, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and nitrous oxide occur in the wavelength region from 3 to 18 pm. Thus, IR imaging sys...
